Sand’s Latest Report: What Do Residents Think About AI in Smart Cities?
Sand Technologies supports organizations in obtaining a current perspective into the public’s sentiments on AI. New research highlighting sentiments and trust of AI in urban spaces brings critical insight that the public sector must take into consideration when designing and communicating strategic investments in AI. Their recently released “AI in Smart Cities 2025” report is based on a national survey of 2,000 U.S. residents and reveals important insights for any organization working in urban innovation.
Key findings from the report include:
67% of residents believe AI will have a positive impact on city living — particularly in areas like traffic management, public safety, infrastructure maintenance and emergency response.
While there is optimism, 61% of those polled are skeptical of local government using AI responsibly. Loss of privacy and loss of jobs were the top two concerns, followed by higher taxes and costs.
Belief in AI is rising: A majority of respondents expressed greater trust in AI solutions when there is transparency, human oversight and clear community benefit.
Residents want AI applications that enhance—not replace—human services, especially in healthcare, public transportation and housing services.
With this research and their global experience, Sand Technologies will continue to play a key role in the regional and national smart city landscape in the United States. NTXIA hopes to continue advancing the conversation of AI technology around infrastructure, regional support and much more.
“We are passionate about enabling clients to make a positive impact in the world using AI and data. As a new member of the NTXIA and the National Smart Coalitions Partnership, we aim to shed light on the many ways AI can change the way cities, people, and technology interact,” said Fred Swaniker, CEO of Sand Technologies. “We look forward to helping NTXIA members address their biggest challenges and improve the quality of life for their city and county constituents.”
Apart from bringing their AI knowledge, Sand Technologies will benefit from direct engagement with industry and public sector leaders, offering their unique perspectives on pressing issues and projects that will amplify the smart city movement throughout the North Texas region.
We’re excited to welcome Sand Technologies to NTXIA as they bring their knowledge and expertise in AI to our members. We hope that through this partnership, we can continue evolving the region to improve living in communities.
