Urban Resilience Fellowship Program

NTXIA is proud to partner with the University of Texas at Arlington to launch its Urban Resilience Fellows Program, which will connect interdisciplinary teams from higher education institutions across DFW with community partners from local governments or industry to embed and develop innovative solutions to pressing issues for the North Texas region.

The first cohort of Urban Resilience Fellows begins Spring 2024 semester. If you are an academic institution, municipality, public agency or company interested in joining the program for the second cohort, please reach out to Yumna Bham at ybham@ntxia.org.

Program Overview

  • Interdisciplinary Teams

The program will connect faculty experts and students to local government and industry partners to develop innovative solutions for pressing sustainability challenges facing our community. The program cultivates innovative talent in North Texas by providing a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment for students to research, ideate and make recommendations on key issues in the community.

  • Complex Problems

The program will address key community issues, with a focus on generating solutions for the public good. All key issues identified will cross at least two of the following focus areas:

    • Mobility / transportation

    • Cyber security

    • Data analytics

    • Environmental / social governance

    • Climate change / Sustainability

    • Workforce readiness

    • Open data /governmental transparency

    • Food systems

    • Law and regulation

  • Presenting Innovative Solutions

The semester engagement will begin by matching community partners’ problem statements with student teams, along with the development of a baseline understanding of the problem, working collaboratively within the partner organization to develop a fully informed program solution, presented to the community partner. These cross-department, cross-issue, cross-institutional cohorts will receive ideas created through multiple-lenses not possible in their daily roles.

Meet the Inaugural Urban Resilience Fellows Community Partners

The first cohort of Urban Resilience Fellows teams will be working with local, regional and private sector community partners to develop solutions to problem statements across transportation, broadband, electrification, public works and emergency response. Project themes will be announced in late 2023!
